Martial Rank Up Goals

For The Martial to rank up, they must meet a specific criteria to do so. This may depend on the Class of Martial. This can also depend on who is involved or what action they are willing to take.

Generic Goals - There are goals to choose from which can be chosen no matter what Martial branch you train in. Depending on your branch, you may flavor these as you wish, within reason. The Generic Goals are within each Rank section.

Custom Goals - If you feel as though your character does not fall into the Generic goals, they can be used as examples to create your own goal. The criteria to be met is as follows:
  • The goal must be objectively difficult to complete but not too difficult to deem impossible. For example, as an Initiate, we will not allow “Learn how to use a blade” for an Assassin to rank up. Nor will we allow “Slay a Dragon” as this would be impossible for an Initiate to complete.
  • The goal must be acceptable for your Martial Branch. Unless this is a generic goal, your goal should not be used by another Martial Branch. For example, a goal specific to The Berserker can not be used for The Guardian, etc.

How to Request a Rank-Up Goal

For Rank-ups of any kind, you will need to upload your goal request to the “Martial Rank-Ups” topic as a new thread. You will be expected to provide the goal(s) you wish to take or the custom goal you would like to request. The format we would like to see this in is shown below.

You may also include the Goal Requirement in your Martial profile on the forums once it is approved.

Once your goal has been accepted, we will be expecting screenshots of the encounters you take to prove that you have achieved this goal.

Goal Title: [The name of your goal]
Branch: [This can be “Generic” or a Martial branch]
Aspiring Rank: [The rank you will receive upon completion]
Goal Requirement: [The main aim of the goal - what is the basic concept?]
Min-Max No of Involved Beings: [How many people can be involved in this?]
Duration: [How many encounters or hours would need to be spent on the goal?]
Duration Enhancements/Regressions: [Are there any requirements that can affect the duration?]
Description: [What are you expecting to happen during your goal? What needs to be done to achieve success?]

If your goal is completed and the screenshots are deemed sufficient, you will have officially ranked up and can add this to your Martial Profile!
 

Initiate (Rank 1)

By proving their skill in their art, The Martial is more experienced and trained. This experience is something to be shared - to learn from pupils they train under them.

Stamina Pool - The Martial’s skills grow, their pool of Stamina to 2.

Learning Techniques - As they hone their skills, they are able to perform harder and more complex techniques. They can do T1 techniques.




The following section consists of the three generic Rank Up goals that any Aspiring-Level Martial may choose from.

Additionally, Custom Goals must be of the same format and on par in terms of difficulty. (To do so, please make an application on the forums under “Martial Rank-Ups”. We are also here to help with any additional queries. If you have an idea you are confused or hesitant on, send it our way!)


Goal Title: A Feel for Combat
Branch: Generic
Aspiring Rank: Initiate, 1
Goal Requirement: Spar two individuals.
Min-Max No of Involved Beings: 2
Duration: Two sparring sessions
Duration Enhancements/Regressions: Being healed by magical means would speed up recovery time.
Description: Sparring two individuals in a match that would push the aspiring Initiate and give them a feel for the weapon in a live scenario. This then starts them on the path of honing their skills and down a branch of the Martial Class.

Goal Title: Experiencing Live Combat
Branch: Generic
Aspiring Rank: Initiate, 1
Goal Requirement: Gaining experience by exposing the aspirant to live combat.
Min-Max No of Involved Beings: 2-X
Duration: Two combat encounters.
Duration Enhancements/Regressions: Being healed by magical means would speed up recovery time.
Description: The aspirant fighting in live combat that would risk their lives. This hardens their nerves and resolve, as well giving them a feel of real combat with their weapon. This can be fighting or hunting, but must be a real event of combating something to give the aspirant experience.

Goal Title: Lessons in Steel
Branch: Generic
Aspiring Rank: Initiate, 1
Goal Requirement: Learning techniques and ways to fight by a teacher. Or practicing learned moves with guidance of a teacher.
Min-Max No of Involved Beings: 2-X
Duration: At least three to four lessons that would equate to four-six hours of roleplay.
Duration Enhancements/Regressions: If injured being healed by magical means would speed up recovery time to continue learning.
Description: The aspirant spends time with a teacher to learn formally in a learning setting how to fight. With less risk to their life and no real experience, they need more time/experience to reach the level of an initiate.


Additionally, for more school focused Goals, we may allow examples such as Silent Hunting for The Assassin, Hosting Dance Sessions for The Dancer, Target Practice for The Ranger, etc.
 

Student (Rank 2)

Stamina Pool - The Martial’s skills grow, doubling their pool of Stamina to 4.

Learning Techniques - As they hone their skills, they are able to perform harder and more complex techniques. They can do T1 and T2 techniques.




The following section consists of the three generic Rank Up goals that any Initiate-Level Martial may choose from.
Goal Title: Training Area
Branch: Generic
Aspiring Rank: Student, 2
Goal Requirement: The construction or maintaining of an in-game training area to your Martial Branch.
Min-Max No of Involved Beings: 1-X
Duration: 3 RP sessions
Duration Enhancements/Regressions: If working in a larger group who could feasibly reduce the amount of time needed to construct a training area, then the number of sessions may be adjusted by Story/Systems Team.
Description: The Martial sets out to raise or maintain a ground where people can train and hone skills to their martial branch. There are no set size or structural rules a training area must follow, but they must be within a character’s ability to construct and within the theming of the martial branch in question. Once a training area is constructed, the Martial may teach and guide students through it.
Goal Title: Honed by Steel
Branch: Generic
Aspiring Rank: Student, 2
Goal Requirement: Host a training session.
Min-Max No of Involved Beings: 1 Host + X Attendants
Duration: 1 Large scale event
Duration Enhancements/Regressions: N/A
Description: The Martial must hold a significant event to hone their skills and of others, be this:
  • A mass training and education of combat.
  • A tournament.
Each event can be unique and individual, and does not need to be a public affair, so long as the Martial trains in the way of the Martial branch they represent in the Event.
Goal Title: Hardened Through Battle
Branch: Generic
Aspiring Rank: Student, 2
Goal Requirement: Completing a task of defeating a skilled or dangerous opponent.
Min-Max No of Involved Beings: 1 Martial + Target
Duration: Till Completed
Duration Enhancements/Regressions: N/A
Description: The Martial seeks out to gain experience through combat itself. The combat must fit their branch of Martial as they expose themselves to a dangerous situation. This could be having a specific someone or thing they seek to defeat.
Examples:
  • A person that they seek to defeat or kill that would prove a worthy test of their skills.
  • Seeking something otherworldly or monstrous to fight and defeat to further expand their skills.
