Fauxbloom

Common

Fauxbloom is a small fungus that grows in dark, damp forested areas, often in rotting fallen trees or plant life. Known to grow in small clusters, the cap of each plant does not exceed two inches in diameter. The Fauxbloom is identifiable by its green stalk and uniquely orange caps, giving it an appearance similar to a flower in bloom. When fully matured, it will release spores into the air which cling to nearby surfaces and will take new root in decaying matter that can be used as a food source. This happens frequently, as the lifespan of the plant is relatively short. If the plant is disturbed, such as being picked or jostled violently, it will also expel its spores as a means of continuing the species in case of its death.

While the Fauxbloom will give food poisoning when consumed raw, it can be cooked and is often served as a steamed side dish in southern cultures. The spores are an alchemical ingredient in the creation of healing salves.

Smokeleaf

Common

Smokeleaf is an herb found in warm climates, known for its ability to be dried and smoked. The plant itself grows to 3 or 4 feet in height, consisting of a single thin but sturdy stalk producing broad and elongated leaves that can reach 8 inches in length. These leaves are a vibrant green, dulling to a pale yellow as the plant ages. The Smokeleaf plant has a distinctive, slightly sweet aroma when crushed and the leaves have a soft, velvet-like texture. The plant also produces small white or pale yellow blossoms when it reaches maturity, each blossom containing reproductive seeds.

While Smokeleaf can be used recreationally, it does serve a medical purpose in that the relaxing effect is good for recovery and is rumored to aid the healing process. Smokeleaf can be prepared by drying and shredding the leaves and rolling the mix into paper or packing it into pipes, but the leaves can also simply be chewed on to garner similar though lessened effects.

Venom Gland

Common

When slain, a Venom Gland may be removed from a Giant Spider. This gland is located in the chelicerae of the beast, and is relatively easy to remove. The gland itself is no bigger than the average palm, weighing no more than half a pound. Care should be taken when handling the gland without gloves, especially if the gland has been damaged and is leaking its contents.

After the death of its host, the venom’s effectiveness begins to decay. Immediately following the death of the spider or the removal of the gland, the venom ceases to bring about complete paralysis making the creation of a lethal poison impossible. It does however retain the ability to numb a localized area of the body. This has led to the venom being used to create a numbing salve that can ease pain in an area of the body without risking negative effects. If the poison is ingested, it will cause vomiting and diarrhea but no lasting negative effects.

Love's Weed

Uncommon

A dangerously addictive plant that can prove fatal if not properly managed. The purple bloom grows in the shape of a love-heart, the center of this flower shifting into a vivid red. It is considered illegal within Sanctuary, and all plants confiscated by the guard are destroyed.

If one manages to refine this plant, it is said to enhance the focus of whomever ingests the result. The refinement does not remove any addictive properties, and consumption of this plant is said to reduce the lifespan of whomever consumes it regularly by around a quarter.

Mortis Willow Leaves

Uncommon

A large tree with thick trunk and spindling branches. The leaves cling onto these swirls with sickly green hues. This wood is known to rot very quickly when exposed to the elements, but is rumoured to be immune to being moved by spiritual beings.

The leaves of this tree can be used in a bundle that when burned produces a significant amount of smoke. It is said that those from the beyond are pacified and revealed by this smoke.

The sap of this tree can be boiled down into a weapon oil, allowing for mundane weapons to make contact with incorporeal forms, however it is rare to properly refine it to a degree that can be useful.

While bitter, the bark of mortis willow is also edible, but those who consume it prefer to boil it for tea.
