Trees
A collection of all the currently known trees and the various uses of their by-products. As more is discovered, this list will begin to expand.
✦Mundane Trees
Common
Oaks, birches, spruces, all widely available to anyone who looks. These materials can be used by professionals to create standard options.
✦Hollowthorn
Common
A dark thorny tree that blossoms in either red or white flowers, when the flowering season is over these blossoms turn into reddish berries. The wood that can be gathered from this tree is dense and hard, a favorite amongst woodworkers when making furniture and tools.
The blossoms, when harvested, can be used in several alchemical concoctions with antiseptic properties, however they are considered uncommon due to the timing required to harvest.
As it’s namesake the thorns found on this tree are hollow and considered a staple in every hospital’s tool closet. However, due to the complexity in refining them they are considered rare.
The berries that are gathered off of this tree are edible, often turned into jams or wines.
✦Witch Hazel
Common
A small deciduous tree, with coarsely toothed broadly oval leaves. The bark can be boiled down and the result is useful for surface wounds, such as scrapes, inflammation, and eczema.
✦Mortis Willow
Uncommon
A large tree with thick trunk and spindling branches. The leaves cling onto these swirls with sickly green hues. This wood is known to rot very quickly when exposed to the elements, but is rumored to be immune to being moved by spiritual beings. Some priests of The Executioner claim this to be a symbol of their god.
The leaves of this tree can be used in a bundle that when burned produces a significant amount of smoke. It is said that those from the beyond are pacified and revealed by this smoke.
The sap of this tree can be boiled down into a weapon oil, allowing for mundane weapons to make contact with incorporeal forms, however it is rare to properly refine it to a degree that can be useful.
While bitter, the bark of mortis willow is also edible, but those who consume it prefer to boil it for tea.
✦Yew
Uncommon
A tall evergreen tree with reddish bark and dark green needle-like leaves. Flexible and easy to work with. A favorite amongst archers for its use in bows.
✦Scorpion Cactus
Uncommon
A tall, smooth and spiny cactus that holds many sharp barbs. These barbs are a deep red, giving it a menacing look. It’s toxic to the touch, with the only use found in the needles that must be carefully harvested.
✦Elderberry
Uncommon
A large bushy tree that holds many leaves. The trunk is hardly visible. The clusters of flowers can be made into tinctures that hold medicinal properties, such as reducing blood pressure.
The berries are largely the same, useful for respiratory infections and increasing immune function.
